Meet the BGI Leadership Team Anna Hampton President Natural Resources and Environmental Science (major), Political Science (major) I became passionate about the environment in high school though my research and environmentally focused community service. I want to make a difference and hope to be able to do so by pursing a career as an Environmental Lawyer. I joined BGI because it allows me be involved on campus and promote sustainability. It is rewarding knowing that the projects we complete have a positive impact on a campus and in the community. Dylan Carson Vice President Mechanical Engineering Technology (major), Electrical Engineering Technology (minor) One day I was getting a haircut and had a conversation with my stylist about what I wanted to do when I grew up. I told her that I didn’t know and she said that she always recommends to people that they find a career helping the environment. From that point on, for whatever reason, I knew I wanted to dedicate my career to sustainability. Macy Wohlford Treasurer Industrial Engineering (major), Women's Studies (minor) What got me into sustainability to begin with was wanting to learn about low carbon footprint foods. I've always been interested in how America's food systems are currently set up in a way that encourages unhealthiness and waste, and I always wanted to change that. I joined BGI to learn new ways to make my life more environmentally friendly. A fun fact about me is that I obsessed with plants -- so if anyone needs a buddy for greenhouse trips, I'm in! Hannah Gruber Event Manager Natural Resources and Environmental Science (major); Political Science (major); Environmental Politics and Policy (minor); Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences (minor) I joined BGI to promote environmental awareness with others passionate for sustainability. I love all the opportunities BGI offers to get involved in the local community! Everything from campus cleanups to hiking and Earth Week events. BGI really does it all. A fun fact about me is that I love film photography, hiking in the mountains, and going to concerts! Amy Yang Media coordinator Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology (major), Spanish for the Professions (minor) I joined BGI because I realized how almost every aspect of modern society relies on our planet continuing to be habitable. BGI was the safe space I found that united students of all career interests under the common goal of educating ourselves and making sustainable changes to our Purdue campus and beyond. After graduation, I hope to become a wildlife veterinarian and to contribute toward species conservation efforts around the world. Jeremy Hampton recycling C ommittee Chair First Year Engineering (major) I joined BGI because promoting a sustainable lifestyle has always been important to me. As such, joining a group of individuals that also promote sustainability seemed like a natural decision. Also, the campus events are a lot of fun. Aidan Murray Recycling Committee Chair Pre-Doctor of Pharmacy (major) I was interested in learning more about recycling and how I could help lengthen the human race's lifespan here on Earth. Mylie Pollie Recycling Committee Chair Pre-Doctor of Pharmacy (major) I was drawn into BGI due to how motivated, welcoming, and well-organized the club is. Everyone here is so passionate about making an impact towards a more sustainable future. We only have one planet, so it's important we take care of it! Alyssa Hermon Water Management Committee Chair Aquatic Sciences (major) I love the inclusivity of the club, everyone’s ideas get to be heard! Faith Goodin Water Management Committee Chair Biological Engineering (major) I want to learn more about sustainability and how I can implement it in my personal life and around campus. I think it's really important for everyone to do what they can to help the environment. I love the people in BGI the most. It’s refreshing to be surrounded by likeminded people who want to make a difference. Julia Morales Outreach Chair Political Science and Sociology (major) I love BGI because of the outings and how chill everyone is.

Meetings Attending BGI meetings is a great way to stay up-to-date about green events happening at Purdue, learn about sustainability, and make a difference at Purdue! Updates & Project Work Each meeting, we share updates about sustainability-related events taking place at or near Purdue, both BGI events and events hosted by other organizations. You can see a summary of what's going on by joining our group chat or mailing list by filling out the form here . Additionally, most meetings will be spent primarily in committees focusing on accomplishing project goals. You can read more about current projects on the Committees page. Reuse Seminars At least once per month, BGI hosts an activity during meetings teaching members ways they can live more sustainably in their daily lives. Past Reuse Seminars have focused on topics such as making vegan smoothies, vegan diets and recipes, creating "plarn" (yarn made from plastic bags), and thrift-shopping Halloween costumes. Green Feats Green Feats are a friendly way to challenge yourself to live more sustainably day-to-day and compete with other members for prizes! Past challenges have included minimizing single-use plastic, going vegetarian for a week, and watchinga sustainability-related documentary. 2-Hour Challenges Once per month, BGI will host a 2-Hour Challenge intended to quickly make a positive, green impact at or near Purdue. To facilitate these activities, both committees work together during at least one meeting per month to prepare for the challenge. Learn more and get involved at our 2-Hour Challenge page. Educational Speakers and Activities Occasionally, BGI hosts speakers or educational activities during meetings to learn about sustainability topics. Past speakers have included professors and the Grounds Manager at Purdue, who discussed what happens to Purdue's waste after it leaves campus. Green Elephant Party The last BGI meeting of the semester is our Green Elephant Party. Come to relax and de-stress before Finals and get some free food. We also have a gently-used item exchange: bring used school supplies or other items you no longer need if you wish and exchange or give them away to other members -- it keeps items out of the landfill and you could potentially pick up some free stuff!
