What type of materials do you collect?Purdue campus has grouped recycling bins in many locations, and office paper bins. Each set of bins are labeled.
*Mixed paper - any type of paper other than office paper.
*Cardboard - any corrugated material. Unacceptable - * cereal boxes, pizza boxes, cardboard milk or juice cartons, wax-coated cardboard
*News paper- newpaper and newspaper inserts
*Plastic/Glass - Plastic and Glass
*Aluminum - Aluminum Cans
*Office Paper -
* Any type of copier, printing, computer or notepad paper; it can be any thickness and this also includes direct mail (junk business mail)
* Plain business-style envelopes and any window envelopes are acceptable as recyclable office paper
* NCR (carbonless) paper or forms
* Plain paper Faxes
* Manila file folders with labels attached to them
* Stapled booklets or brochures ( with or without glossy covers) are acceptable
* Paper with Post-it notes or self-adhesive labels are OK; staples or paper clips attached to paper are also OK

How should these materials be sorted?Paper should be sorted into office paper, newspaper, and other paper.
Aluminum cans should be by separated
Plastics (anything made of plastic) and glass(unbroken) can be co-mingled
Corrugated Cardboard should be set by recycling bins

What areas do you service?Purdue Recycling picks up from Purdue Academic bldgs, Resident Halls, Stadium, and Purdue Research Foundation Bldgs. All of these buildings have an area where the Green Recycling Carts are staged. Folks can leave their recyclables by these green carts and the Recycling crews will pick these up. Back to Top

Where do you send your materials?Materials recycled on Purdue campus are taken to the transfer station in Lafayette. From there they are taken to Muncie, IN which has a great sorting plant. From there the materials are taken to reprocessing plants in Kentucky or Chicago. Back to Top

What type of materials do you accept and how should I sort them?Depends on if you are using Pick Up or Drop Off.

* Bottles and Glass Food Containers
* Newspaper
* Plastics 1-7
* Flattened cardboard and mixed paper can also be picked up by curbside recycling. Cardboard must be flattened and the mixed paper must be bagged.

1. Place newspapers in bottom of container
2. Place grocery sacks on top of newspapers.
3. Glass in one bag. Cans, aluminum and tin in another bag.
4. Mixed paper (magazines, junk mail, cereal boxes and books) in another container next to your recycling bin.
5. Plastics in another container next to your recycling bin.
6. Flattened cardboard boxes underneath your recycling bin.

Where do you service?City of West Lafayette picks up from single family dwellings or apartments with less than 4 units within city limits that pay a sanitation fee. Units with more than 4 units have commercial waste haulers that are responsible for providing for recyclables.
The West Lafayette drop off center is located at 705 S. River Road and is open to anyone.

Pick up is places that have less than 4 tenants to a building.
Drop off is at
705 South River Road, just .4 miles south of the 26 and 231 intersection. Open everyday, 24 hours.

What materials do you accept and how should I sort them?* Newspapers
Lay flat in brown paper bags. Inserts are accepted. Do not include phone books, mail or magazines. Keep newspaper dry with a plastic garbage bag during wet weather
* Clear, Brown & Green Glass
Rinse clean and remove lids and caps. Steel lids can be put with tin cans to be recycled. Do not include window glass, drinking glass or light bulbs.
* Aluminum & Tin Cans
Rinse clean. Try removing both ends on tin cans and stomping flat. Do not include spray or paint cans.
* Plastics #1 & #2
Remove lids, rinse cleans and flatten. Do not include any other type of plastic or oil contaminated plastic.
Sorting the materials is not nessesary
