Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) is a
unique program at Purdue University in which teams of
undergraduate students design, build, and implement real
systems to solve engineering-based problems for local
community service and education organizations. There are
over 40 EPICS teams that work each semester on different
projects which, to date, have completed over 150 projects
for these community service and educational organizations.
The students enrolled in the Boiler Green Initiative
division of EPICS are working on three projects:
- Feasibility of implementing a Pay-As-You-Throw Project in
West Lafayette
- Hillel House environmentally friendly renovation project
which focuses on winterization, passive solar and a rain
garden
- Wind turbine siting project on Purdue University's campus
