Sustainable Foods

The Boiler Green Initiative Sustainable Foods Committee is the newest but most awesome committee. We are dedicated to increasing more awareness on campus towards the impact our daily food choices on the community and our entire food system as a whole—since if you think about it, it’s one of the easiest choices to make—and the impact is huge since everyone eats at least 3 times a day!

Fun Fact for the Day: If every American ate one local and organic meal per week, the nation would consume 1.1 million fewer barrels of oil each week (and that's just one meal a day--so think if all of your meals were local and organic)!

Past Projects:
  • Movie Screenings of "Fresh"
  • Presentation on Sustainable Farming Practices
  • Vermicomposting workshops

Current Projects:
  • Movie series that includes movies such as: “The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil”, “The Garden”, “The Real Dirt on Farmer John”, “The World According to Monsanto”
  • Collaborating with the Farmers’ Market on campus, and working with Full Circle Agriculture at Purdue (a newly established student run farm)
