Boiler Green Initiative is commited to promoting recycling in the Purdue community. The following is a summary of our 2007 to 2008 activities.
Achievements:
- Recycling at October 27, 2007 home football game
- Recycling only during tailgating
- 15 volunteers
- Several hundred pounds of aluminum collected
- Recycling at November 10, 2007 home football game
- Over 1200 pounds of plastic collected from inside the stadium
- Over 1000 pounds of glass and aluminum collected from tailgating areas
- 25 volunteers
- Awarded Tipmont REMC Envirowatts Grant
- $10,000 to purchase recycling clusters
- 4 of them are now located in PAO Hall (Department of Visual and Performing Arts
- 3 of them are in the Class of 50 building
- 14 are in the Stewart Center (including in HSSEE library)
Future Goals:
- Increase recycling awareness across campus
- Pamphlets and posters
- Competitions – “Golden Can” during Grand Prix Week
- Increase recycling volumes around campus
- Increase recycling at Football events
- Help athletics build mini A-frames where tailgaters can get free trash and recycling bags
- Apply to IDEM grant to purchase outdoor recycling bins for inside and outside the football stadium.
- Work with athletics to ‘educate’ Purdue fans and promote recycling inside and outside the stadium.
